A Boy of Assisi
Brother Leo to take a pen and write,
Sister Moon and the stars of night,
Sister Water, Brother the fire,
Our Sister earth to retire.
In brown habit,
Refusing to eat,
Passing in 1226,
His work complete.
His body, his soul,
Possessing the wounds,
Bearded, barefoot,
Radically renewed.
Sacred refuge,
Where art and prayer unite,
A saving beacon,
"St. Francis one of Christ."
Nobles and serfs,
Trampling their feet,
In the Middle Ages,
A boy of Assisi.
